|Mooring Fees in Roatan|
This was sent in from Kent Trompeter on S/V Southern Mist II: Last week a meeting was held at West End Roatan by the Marine Park, the subject was mooring fees and anchoring restrictions. We got the word today, starting Monday April 26 the following fees will go into effect: $10.00/day; $20.00/week; $100/month, all fees in US Dollars. Absolutely no anchoring and they look to install up to 20 moorings.
During the meeting the issue of liability was broached but with no apparent effect. The moorings at West End have a bad habit of pulling out during strong winds so I am not sure if they are going to install double sand screws or just go with what they have. In addition they discussed using dye in the heads of moored boats to ensure they were using holding tanks, but no pumpout facility is available so not sure where that will go, if anywhere. Depending on acceptance of the fees a similar fee structure may be implemented at French Harbor (Fantasy Island) but that would take a while as they will have to install the moorings first and knowing how things work here that may not happen until 2012.
